Law Firm IT

Managed IT for solo, boutique, and mid-sized law firms across NYC and northern New Jersey. Confidentiality-first networks, document management, and compliance-aware infrastructure.

Common challenges

  • Client confidentiality and attorney work-product privilege
  • Document management (NetDocuments, iManage, Worldox, OneDrive/SharePoint)
  • Time-billing and practice management (Clio, MyCase, PracticePanther)
  • eDiscovery, litigation hold, and chain of custody
  • State bar ethics rules on cloud, encryption, and client data
  • Court e-filing requirements and remote depositions

How we solve them

  • Confidentiality-first network design with segmentation between client matters
  • MFA and conditional access on every system that touches client files
  • Encrypted document management with audit trails
  • Immutable backups with attorney-work-product retention
  • Litigation hold readiness and eDiscovery-friendly archiving
  • VPN and remote access designed for court-day reliability
  • Documented incident response with breach-counsel coordination

Compliance support

  • NY State Bar ethics opinions on cloud and AI use
  • NJ state bar guidance
  • Federal court e-filing security requirements
  • HIPAA where firms touch client medical records
  • Client-mandated security controls (often financial-industry clients require SOC 2 from their counsel)

IT that takes attorney-client privilege seriously

Law firms have one IT requirement that overrides everything else: every byte of client data is privileged, and any breach is a malpractice and ethics issue, not just a security incident. We architect networks, identity, and document management with that as the first principle, not a feature added later. Our managed IT plans are built around that reality.

Common stacks we manage

Document management: NetDocuments, iManage, Worldox, or modernized M365/SharePoint with proper sensitivity labels and audit logging. Practice management: Clio, MyCase, PracticePanther, Smokeball, ProLaw. Time and billing: Bill4Time, TimeSolv, Tabs3. Court e-filing: NYSCEF (NY State), PACER (federal), NJ eCourts. Remote deposition platforms: Zoom for Government / Zoom Health-grade, Veritext, US Legal Support.

What “confidentiality-first” architecture means

Network segmentation between attorney workstations, paralegal/admin, and guest. MFA enforced on every system that touches client files, no exceptions. Encrypted document management with per-matter access control and audit trails the bar would accept on inspection. Backups that are attorney-work-product-aware (retention matches the firm’s records-retention policy, not arbitrary 30-day windows). Litigation hold readiness — when a hold is invoked, you can demonstrate that data was preserved, accessible, and unchanged. Firms subject to the NY SHIELD Act or handling client data with state-mandated security requirements benefit from our Compliance-as-a-Service program, which builds and maintains the documented controls your clients and their insurers increasingly require. Our cybersecurity stack includes documented incident response with breach-counsel pre-engaged so when something happens, the first call is to the right firm, not Google. For firms without a dedicated CIO or CISO, our vCIO & vCISO advisory fills that role at a fraction of the full-time cost — including vendor reviews, security roadmaps, and the annual IT strategy sessions your malpractice carrier expects. We also offer a standing Incident Response retainer so you have a defined response team before the breach, not after.

What we do not do

We are not a “law firm IT specialist” boutique that only does law firms. We are an MSP that serves law firms inside a broader practice. The trade-off is real: if you want a vendor whose entire roadmap is built around law-practice-management software, we are not that. If you want an IT team that runs the rest of your business technology with the same rigor and treats client confidentiality as a real requirement, we are.

What it costs

Per-workstation flat rate (Essentials $109, Secure $159, Sovereign $225) plus servers, infrastructure, and any project work (document management migration, M365 buildout, office relocation). Most law firm engagements land in the Secure tier; firms with regulated-industry clients or dedicated security mandates use Sovereign.

If you operate a NY/NJ law firm and want a 30-minute IT review focused on confidentiality posture, book a call or get a quick number from the MSP cost calculator.
